OARS has an opening for two Environmental Field Assistants for Summer 2021

ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD ASSISTANTS - Invasive Plant Rapid Response Team:

Job Description
Two assistants will work together as a team to assess and remove emerging populations of water chestnut on sections of the Assabet, Sudbury and Concord Rivers. This is a key intervention to prevent the spread of the invasive plant in the watershed. The assistants will be trained to map, locate, remove and dispose of the plants, and will work primarily on the water from a canoe.

Qualifications
• Physical ability to spend long hours outdoors in all weather conditions
• Experience paddling canoes or kayaks and physical ability to help get the boat on top of a car.
• Experience in plant identification; map reading; and interest in botany, wildlife, or ecology
• Have a vehicle that can transfer a canoe and a valid license.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team.
• Ability and interest to interact with volunteers and the public in a professional manner.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Employment Details
• Time frame: ~20 hrs/week; June 28 - August 6 (6 weeks). May include some weekend days.
