OARS is hiring a Summer Outreach Field Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY
OARS is seeking a Summer Outreach Field Assistant to help coordinate community volunteer days, assist with educational activities for children, and help with watershed wide events (including walks, paddles, and at festivals). The Outreach Field Assistant will interact with the public to improve management of the rivers, promote the organization and its events, and will assist with publicizing activities.

This is a paid part-time (20 hours/week) position June 1-August 19, 2022. We are based in West Concord, but some work can be done remotely and some will be in the field; schedule is flexible. Attendance at events on occasional evenings and weekends required.

ABOUT OARS
OARS is the watershed organization for the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord Rivers. The watershed lies about 20 miles west of Boston, stretches from Lowell to Hopkinton, Berlin to Wayland and includes 29 miles with the Federal designation of "Wild & Scenic Rivers."

OARS uses research, advocacy, and education to ensure that these beautiful rivers will continue to provide clean and abundant water, exceptional recreational opportunities, and rich wildlife habitat for the benefit of all our communities—all within a short drive of Boston, Lowell, and Worcester.

Founded in 1986, OARS currently has approximately 900 members, a 11-member Board of Directors, 3 staff, and 150 volunteers.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the environment and enjoys the outdoors, boating skills a plus
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks
  • Good communication skills and experience with social media
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and detail-oriented
  • High school diploma plus relevant work or volunteer experience
  • Must provide own transportation
